Er, This is a Teensy Bit Embarrassing

The other day I realized that I have 12 plain red t-shirts. That's not counting all the red polos, button-downs, long-sleeved t-shirts, sweaters, and message tees.

That's kind of ridiculous, right?

I really need to get rid of at least half of them. It shouldn't be so hard--I already have a giant bag full of give-away clothes (as I do every year at Seasonal Clothing Rotation Time). But...these are red. I love red. Red has been my favorite color for lo, these 20 years. I have no problem culling the starting-to-get-ratty shirts from other color families--I do it with startling regularity. But the red ones are my friends! Some of them are getting pretty darn disreputable, I think one of them is from my college days (and I graduated in 1997). But I don't want to part with them. What if I don't do laundry for a month and I run out of red t-shirt options?ยก I need to at least ditch the one with the scratchy tag and the one with the little holes in the hem. And the one with the grease stain. Then I would only have 9--that's more reasonable, right?

We won't even talk about how many pairs of shoes I have. Here's a hint though, at least 10 pairs are red.

  • Red is my all time favorite color too! I love it...pretty much anything red is going to be my favorite. I am very excited because I just found a fabulous red lipstick adn can now carry out a dream I have always had. Have you ever noticed how models and movies stars were lucious red lipstick and look fabulous?? I have always wanted to do just that. And now (I porb wont look fab, but I am going to do it anyway) I too am going to wear red lip color all the time...Hmmm I am going to go put some on right now!!

  • I looked for MONTHS to find the perfect red lipstick. I was SOOO excited when I found it. But I've only worn it a handful of times. It just isn't as fabulous on me as it is on models and movie stars--I worry that it makes me look like trailer trash. Or worse: Xtina Aguilera.

  • Of course I remember your red collection. But how much of your Leopard Print phase do you still have around?

  • Well I have the opposite problem...because I don't have any red...not one...and every time I go to the store I try to talk myself into getting some color...no more of this black, brown, white stuff...but sure enough...i always walk out with my neutral colorless wardrobe!

  • i have this problem too. I'm mildly obsessed with green. when I was a hs freshman I was in my gangsta phase. Being a hispanic girl, I HAD to wear the brick red lipstick. It was bad really... But now I can still only handle the look of browns and rusty colors on my lips... this is, once again, going nowhere. YAY! See you Saturday!!!!!

  • Sanderson, I still have a couple of leopard print dresses, and I almost bought the sassiest leopardy heels, but they were $40 bucks and I couldn't bring myself to pay $40 for what are basically novelty shoes. I also still have the wicked-sexy leopard mini-skirt I'm sure you're thinking of (probably with great fondness), but as usual, it doesn't fit--and I don't have any appropriate venues to wear it to anyway. I'll never give it away, I love it too much.

  • Priscilla, you would look so pretty in red--consider it your homework to find at least one red shirt the next time you go shopping. Target has some good t-shirts for $10. (Yes, I bought two red ones.)

I hardly own any earth tones or grays (plenty of black, though). I probably ought to buy some brown tops because it looks good with my eyes. But reds and yellows and greens and blues are so much more fun!

  • "...at least 10 pairs are red"!!!
Wow! Can you post pictures of them and the red shirts? :)
    Red is my favorite color!

  • Leilouta, If I knew how to post pictures I would be happy to. Believe me, I'm pretty proud of them in a sick sort of way.

Maybe I can get Ty to help me figure it out.

  • two things.

    1) i finally found my perfect red last year, too. it's l'oreal and it's called fired up. and i don't look anything like drew barrymore when i wear it. dang it.

    2) when you go to target... do people ask you where to find things?

  • Hee hee! I have been mistaken for a Target employee a few times! The other day I was there in a non-red shirt and saw a girl walk in the door wearing a red t-shirt and pale khakis and I thought to myself, "Oh, that poor girl's not going to get a moment's peace in here."
