You Know How I Invited You to Come Visit us in Maryland?
Nevermind.
We won't be there.
That's right. After we spent five weeks in a tizzy--packing, stressing, cleaning, worrying, fixing, whining, planting, and spreading the news of our impending departure...it's off.
I guess the Air Force is short on funds, so they revoked the authorization for people of Steve's rank to hold that position. So there are 11 other families in the same situation we're in. Thank goodness we got the news two days (not two months) after we put the house on the market. I shudder to think what would have happened if we'd accepted an offer, THEN got this news.
Stupid Air Force.
It's weird. Most of me is relieved that everything is back to normal. (I never thought I'd be happy to be stuck in Idaho.) But I had been working really hard to have a good attitude, to be supportive, to look at the positive aspects of the move. I was actually looking forward to several things about living in that area. (Primarily being within visiting distance of the charming Conni, the phenomenal seafood, taking a break from work till at least after the holidays, and the proximity to enough nerdy museums and historical sites to make my heart go pitty-pat.)
It's strange to feel vaguely disappointed about missing out on something I didn't even want to do.
Anyway, if anyone's been dying to take a vacation in lovely Boise, Idaho, we'll be here another year or so...

It's kind of like how Urkel chased Laura day in and day out, but then when he lost interest she missed his attentions....even though they drove her nuts.
Oh Family Matters, you always have an application for life.
PS. This is the SECOND time I have commented about Urkel today, and I'm not even sure if I spelled it correctly.

i'm happy and sad for you.

I'm doing my impression of my cousin, Todd, now. Only Gina knows him, but it's funny to me so, who cares?
"Gee! Can't bel . . . [inarticulate mumbling with exasperated hand-gestures] Gee!"

Welcome home :)

I'm just sorry for all of the fuss for nothing. That would really get me going! You should have the air force reimburse you some time for all your efforts getting the house on the market and then have them give you a massage for the stress! Ridiculous! - pris

So what exactly does this now mean for you? Are they going to send you there in a year? Or are you out in a year?
sorry...and congrats
By Ryan Woods, at 9:12 AM
That Family Matters reference has me giggling. And the way you spelled Urkel looks good to me.
Ty, Hee! That was a dead-on impression.
Thanks, Dody.
Man, if only the Air Force would agree, Priscilla! Sadly, the way things work with the government, they'd be likely to charge us the fees for the paperwork to cancel the assignment. (Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be airmen.)
Ryan, this means all of our plans go back to what they were six weeks ago. Steve will retire in June of 2007 and we'll look for a job in the Portland area--you can start praying for Steve to find a great job anytime! =P

Thats great! I think.. sorry your disppointed, but sometimes I think God just gives us a little taste of something to see how we will react, and if we will accept it with faith. You did, and now you get to stay! I don't know if God really does that, but its encouraging how you took it all in stride and looked for the best in it.
By Lisa, at 12:04 PM
I thought of something along those lines, too, Lisa. Sort of a flexibility test for my faith, maybe.
Who knows, with the way the Air Force works, we may get the same assignment again in October!

Hey you! I am glad that... uh... you are staying in Idaho... I guess. Don't take offense to me wrinkling my nose and shaking my head a little at the thought of going there on vacation. It's much to much like the area of Texas I live in now. But I DO want to see that smiling face of your sometime! I even went to the camp yamhill site, that you so graciously put on your blog, and looked for a picture of you at 3rd and 4th grade camp. Saw Ty... saw half of your mom's face, but no Gina. No Gina dad either. Sad... I miss my Gina mom and Gina dad and Gina brother.
I will be in Portland in two weeks. Maybe I'll see Gina mom and Gina dad then! Yes!
Love you... glad to see that God is working in your life and teaching you stuff. He's good at that kinda thing!

Kara, I don't blame you for scoffing at the idea of Boise as a prime vacation spot. The town itself is better than it used to be, and it's only half an hour from real trees and mountains, but the immediate area is definitely a desert.
Hey, I'm going to be in Portland in about 3 or 3 1/2 weeks! But only for a really short visit for my friends' wedding (it's out at camp). We'll probably be there on August 11 and 12, then leave after church on the 13th. Let me know if you're still going to be there.
Oh, and there IS a picture of Dad (sitting in front of the staff cabin with my hubby) on the camp website. I think it's on the fifth page of the Thursday pictures. There are lots of pictures of my hubby--he was the Flag Guy, so all the flag raising and lowering pics are likely to have him in 'em.

You are so going to kill me for asying this, but I swear it is the truth! When I was first looking through the pictures, looking for YOU, I saw this image of what looked like a solider... and (here's the part where you will end our friendship) I thought to myself, "Wow, they got Harley (McWatters) to go to 3rd and 4th grade camp? That's weird!"
And THAT is who I thought your husband was for about 2.5 seconds.
But I soon realized the error of my ways and repnted, of thinking Ginahusband was Harley McWatters.
So, yeah. That's the end of my story. Hope you still love me, cuz I really love Gina-thee.
By Kara Deal, at 1:17 PM
I'm laughing through the hate. Because that really is funny. No, I haven't talked to Harley since I disabused him of his notions of a future with me. (He evidently thought we had a long-term relationship when I wasn't aware we'd ever been on an actual date.)
Just so you know, Steve is NOTHING like Harley.

Just think, Gina...
Now you'll be able to stay and enjoy the Cheesecake Factory. Mmm...cheesecake...my weakness.
I can't wait to see you at Kelsey's wedding!
By Christi, at 6:45 PM
Mmmm...Cheesecake. Yay!
That reminds me, I need to go shopping and find something to wear to Kelsey's wedding. Ick. I hate shopping for clothes when I have to buy a size that I'd rather not be wearing.
By Unknown, at 10:11 AM
Ty, you've got Todd nailed!
Very, very good!

G-
Long time no see/speak.
Still hoping for that Super Camping to come about.
But really glad you'll still be on the right end of this country.
What date will you be in p-town?
(or did that already happen?)
By Joey jo-jo jr. shabadoo, at 11:59 PM
Next time we'll be around (not counting the whirlwind trip for a wedding in two weeks, since we'll have NO time then) will probably be in the last half of October or first half of November. We're hoping to go to the coast for our anniversary, but we might be in the old 503 for a day or two.
